Janis Hein

Janis Hein, 63, died Sept. 18, 2002, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center, Hillsboro.

The wife of Marion County Commission chairman Robert Hein, she was a certified nurse aid at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 23, 1939, at Strong City, daughter of the late Chester and Dorothy (Graham) Hatcher.

She spent her childhood in Florence, attended schools there and graduated from Florence High School in 1957.

She enjoyed music and learned to play the piano when she was young and often played for school and church.

On Nov. 23, 1958, at Florence, she married Bob Hein. The couple lived in Durham. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Fina Gas Station and the gas delivery truck they owned. She also helped her Aunt Hannah Nuss at the café.

In 1973, the family moved to Hillsboro. In 1979, they moved to Manhattan and moved back to Hillsboro in 1987.

Survivors include her husband of the home; son, Mike Hein of Temple, Texas; daughters, Diana Thomsen and husband Chris of Hartford and Brenda Moss and husband Rick of Hillsboro; sister, RoseAnn Hatcher of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church where services were held Sept. 23 with the Rev. R. Laney Kuhn officiating. Burial was at Durham Park Cemetery.

Musicians were Kathy Decker, organist, and Rod Koons, vocalist.

Casketbearers were Mike Hein, Chris Thomsen, Aaron Thomsen, Rick Moss, Brandon Moss, and Tim Hein.

A memorial has been established with the church.
