Jeff Cady elected president of Marion chamber
Marion insurance agent Jeff Cady was elected Friday as president of Marion Chamber of Commerce for the coming year.
Three members of the board of directors re-elected were: Mitch Carlson, Jeff Cady, and Chris Costello. Remaining on the board are Jami Williams, Donna Bernhardt, Linda Carlson, Roger Hannaford III, and Woody Crashaw. Gene Winkler is a life member and Kevin Fruechting ex-officio member as past president.
Fruechting presided. The meal was served by McGillicuddy's Restaurant.
Entertainment was by the Marion High School Singers under the direction of Adam White. Anita Brookens was pianist. The group was well received while presenting a program of Christmas music.
David Scott of radio station KJRL, Herington, was a guest.
Fruechting thanked committee chairmen and asked for reports.
Michelle Hett reported that the tourism committee had developed new full color brochures, shopping bags, postcards, had a booth at Kansas State Fair, worked in Central Park, supported Chingawassa Days and Art in the Park, attended the Kansas Sampler Festival at Independence, sponsored the community kiosk at Main and Elm, will sponsor the annual New Year's observance at the courthouse, and sponsored Christmas Magic which raised funds for holiday decorations.
Margo Yates reported for the retail sales committee due to the absence of Troy Leith. She said the committee is adopting a "friendly" shop at home campaign. They meet the third Thursday of each month.
Roger Hannaford III said the annual farm-city steak night attracted 250 farmers and ranchers. It shows appreciation from Marion merchants, he said, and is held each year during Farm City Week in November.
Chris Costello presented drawings of proposed new road signs. Directional signs also are proposed.
Susan Cooper reported on the economic development monthly meeting.
Fruechting said McGillicuddy's will be open at midnight for the annual lowering of the New Year ball on the courthouse lawn. They will serve breakfast, he said.
Fruechting also announced that the annual membership meeting will be held Jan. 27 with Lt. Gov. John Moore as speaker. Country Dreams will serve the meal. The reception and dinner will be $15 per person.
Fruechting thanked Yates for her devoted service during the past year and presented her a gift from the membership.
