Jerry Vajnar

Jerry Vajnar, 92, of Newton, died June 18, 2008, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.

Born Oct. 25, 1915, at Tampa, he was the son of Antone and Frantiska (Codle) Vajnar.

On Oct. 14, 1941, he married Mildred Holub at Pilsen. She died in 2007.

Together they farmed south of Tampa for many years. He also worked for Hesston Corporation until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Combs and husband Pete of Newton and Vickie Kraus and husband Don of Marion; two sons, Jerome and wife Cindy of Austin, Texas, and Lynn and wife Connie of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The rosary was recited Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton, followed by the funeral mass with Father Hien Nguyen of Holy Family Parish, Marion, as a con-celebrant.

Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Newton.

Memorial funds have been established with the church, Father Kapaun Foundation, or Newton Senior Center.
