Jessie Muck

Funeral services for Jessie L. Muck, 98, were held Friday at Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato.

Pastor Sarah Hickson de Salazar officiated. Music was provided by Shirley Wood, pianist, and a duet by Newell Alexander and Wiley Alexander. Casket bearers were Scott Schoener, Michael Ladd, John Price, Alan Czirr, Don Fogo, and Robert Weber.

Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center with interment following.

Jessie, the fifth of 13 children of David Ernest and Arminta Jane (Barnett) Kennedy, was born July 15, 1903, at Esbon.

She died April 2, 2002, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato.

She attended school at Line Tree Country School, Esbon High School for two years, and graduated from Mankato High School before entering business college at Fairbury, Neb.

Jessie went to work as a secretary for the Muck Produce Co. in Clay Center.

July 1, 1925, she was united in marriage to Fred R. Muck in Topeka. To this union, one daughter was born, Ruth.

They moved to Marion where Jessie worked at Marion High School as secretary. She moved to Mankato in 1972, to be closer to family.

While in Marion she was a member of Valley United Methodist Church. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, since 1972. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Muck had many interests and hobbies. She had a large button collection, was an active bird watcher and gardener, as well as an enthusiastic genealogist.

Retiring from Marion High School, she kept up her typing skills by typing several term papers for college students and letters to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred on May 30, 1959; eight brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth and husband, William Ladd of Chillicothe, Ill.; three grandchildren, Michael, Patty, and Beth; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Kennedy of Lebanon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family suggests memorials to Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato.
