Jirak, Klenda lead Centre boys at league track meet

Centre High School track teams as a whole did not place high Friday in the Eisenhower League track meet at Abilene, but several individuals continued to do well.

The boys' team finished in fifth place, but Seth Jirak and Alfonse Klenda had several first place finishes.

Jirak was first in shot put with a throw of 47 feet and in discus with a throw of 139-5.

Klenda placed first in javelin with a throw of 169-9.5. Following close on the heels of Jirak, he was second in shot put at 43-6 and discus at 130-6.

Nick Cole was one of two participants in boys' pole vault and came out on top, clearing the bar at 8-6.

The girls' team finished in fourth place.

Brittany Owens placed second in javelin with a throw of 96-6. Kylie Burhoop finished second in high jump at 4-8 and pole vault at 6-7.

The 4x100 relay team of Samantha Seifert, Shelby Deines, Carlye Simons, and Burhoop placed second with a time of 56.8 seconds.
