Jo Ann Kjellin

Jo Ann Kjellin, 71, died July 7, 2002, at the family farm home north of Marion.

Well known and highly regarded, she exhibited a courageous two-month battle with cancer.

The daughter of the late Reuben and Sophia (Johnson) Peterson, she was born Jan. 5, 1931, at Clay Center.

She married Charles Kjellin April 9, 1950, making their home on the family farm north of Garrison.

When their land was taken for Tuttle Creek Reservoir, they moved to Marion in 1959 and established their home.

A kind and gentle person, she was a devoted mother and dedicated help mate to her husband.

She also was active at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

Services were held at the church Tuesday morning with the Rev. John Goering and the Rev. Marilyn Cox officiating.

Casket bearers were Ben Bowers, David Kelly, Mitchell Enos, Chris Sauerwein, Mark Kelly, Stephen Bowers, and Luke Bowers.

Honorary bearers were Erik Kjellin, Andrew Kjellin, and Adam Kjellin.

Private burial, in Marion Cemetery, was held prior to the funeral.

Memorial funds have been established at the church, Feed The Children, and Central Homecare and Hospice.

Survivors included her husband, Charles Kjellin, of the home; son, Doug Kjellin and wife Amy; daughters, Mary Beth Bowers and husband Greg, Karen Kelly and husband Dale, Patricia Enos and husband Daryl: 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Gene) Dettmer; three nieces; and a multitude of friends.

Her contagious smile, willing hands, and dynamic leadership will be missed.
