Joe Zinn

Joseph H. "Joe" Zinn, 93, died Aug. 31, 2002, at the Lutheran Care Home, Herington. Born April 29, 1909, at Lost Springs, he was the son of John H. and Bertha E. (Scott) Zinn.

Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bennie Rosell officiating. Burial followed in the Lost Springs Cemetery.

Zinn was a farmer and had his own drilling and water well service until he retired in 1984. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Tri-County Historical Society, Herington. A talented musician, he especially enjoyed playing the violin. He played the banjo, mandolin, and guitar, taught music, and repaired instruments. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Scottie F. Zinn.

Survivors include his sister-in-law Patricia Zinn of Lost Springs; two nephews, Joseph A. Zinn of Lost Springs and Donald Zinn of Emporia; and three nieces, Rebecca Lehnherr of Emporia, Jacqueline Schlesener of Eldon, Mo., and Barbara Cosh of Lyndon. He also is survived by his companion and friend, Virginia Brunner of Herington and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Memorials have been requested for the Center for Basic Cancer Research at KSU, the Dickinson County Hospice, or the Herington Senior Center.
