John Barr Jr.
John Turner Barr Jr., D.O., 47, Marion, died May 19, 2003, following an airplane crash in South Dakota.
He was the son of John and Luverne Barr Sr. They preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Valley United Methodist Church.
Burial was at his home in rural Marion.
A long time resident of Haysville, he graduated from Campus High School in 1973. He attended Wichita State University, working part-time and completing his degree in geology in 1986. He later attended the University of Health Sciences at Kansas City, graduating in 1994, with a medical degree in osteopathy in the field of rural family medicine.
As a member of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, he did his residency in Bay City, Mich., before moving back to the Midwest to practice.
At the time of his death, he commuted to work for Indian Health Services in South Dakota.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline Kelly, and sons John T. Barr III and Justin K. Barr, all of Marion, one sister, one brother, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family members.
