John Fox

John C. Fox, 85, was born Jan. 10, 1918, at Marion, the son of Bert and Viola (Honn) Fox.

John attended school at Marion and grew up in the community. As a young man he liked to fish and raise garden products.

During World War II he served in the Army in the Philippines as a mechanic.

After returning home from the service he worked as a mechanic, carpenter, and sheet metal fabricator.

In later years he enjoyed his privacy. He was well read and enjoyed a spirited exchange over many things, such as politics and the simple life.

John spent his last years at Legacy Park nursing center in Peabody. He died there May 15, 2003.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Helen; and son Jack Dean Fox.

He is survived by his son, John L. Fox of Montgomery, Texas; two sisters, Betty Duerksen and Leona Everett, both of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held May 20 at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, with the Rev. Bill Sherfy officiating. Burial followed at the Marion Cemetery with military rites provided by a Fort Riley Color Guard.
