Josephine Frick

M. Josephine Frick, 87, of rural Durham died June 27, 2002, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center in Hillsboro.

Born Dec. 21, 1914, in Quincey, she was the daughter of Herman Fredrick and Ada Pearl (Howell) Steckel.

On Aug. 30, 1942, she married Clinton M. Frick in Virgil. He died in 1997. She was a farmer, business woman, and school teacher and a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

She graduated with a degree in home economics from Emporia State University and taught in several elementary and high schools in Kansas. She enjoyed creating garments for her family, collecting bells and salt dips, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Frieda and Grace and brother Herman.

Survivors include her daughters, Rev. Edith K. Funk and husband Francis of Topeka, Norman Jean Patton and husband Jeff of Peabody, Josephine Ann Good and husband Robert of Marion, and Nancy F. Pickett and husband Del of Wichita; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held July 2 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church with Rev. R. Laney Kuhn officiating. Burial was at Frick Cemetery in rural Durham.

Kathy Decker was the organist. Casket bearers were her grandchildren Amy Turner, Rachel Webster, Grace Patton, Aaron Funk, Ethan Good and Oliver Good. Honorary casket bearers were Matthew and Katie Pickett.

Memorials have been established with the Heifer Project International and Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
