Josh Bowers becomes Eagle Scout
An Eagle Court of Honor was held Sunday at McPherson for Joshua Alan Bowers.
He is the son of Jock and Paula Bowers who joined Pack 221 in June 1995, while living at Fort Hood, Texas.
He received the Arrow of Light June 3, 1995, and joined Troop 224 June 6, 1995, at Fort Hood, Texas.
He went up the ranks in Scouting, earning 25 merit badges, advanced into the Order of the Arrow, attended Junior Leadership Training, and earned the Pope Pius IV award in April of 2001.
He attended camp in Texas two years and Quivira Camp in Kansas two years. He also went to North Carolina in 1997 to Camp Daniel Boone for seven days earning his "50-mile patch."
During the summer of 2000 he went to Philmont Scout Camp, Cimarron, N.M., for a 12-day back packing camp.
Joshua's Eagle project included helping the Cedars Nursing Home at McPherson rebuild a deck by the pond and living quarters.
He will graduate in December from McPherson High School.
A member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, he plans to join the Navy.
He is the great-grandson of Olinda Klein and Harold Bowers of Marion, and grandson of the late Joan and Harold Bowers.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Harold and Virginia Bowers and Vernon and Arlene Bowers.
