Junior Cougars achieve another win at White City

Centre Junior High School boys' varsity basketball team remains undefeated in league play after a 39-32 win Nov. 22 at White City.

The Cougars jumped to a first quarter lead of 15-7 on excellent scoring by James Weber, who made five field goals and one free throw.

Centre was outscored 9-6 in the second quarter but maintained a 21-16 lead at halftime.

White City continued to battle back in the third quarter, outscoring Centre 8-6, but the Cougars outpaced the Huskies 12-8 in the fourth quarter to win the game, 39-32.

Both teams shot 50 percent from the free-throw line. Centre made 18 field goals compared to 13 by White City.

Weber was the Cougars' leading scorer with 18 points. Konley Harding also was in double-digits with 10 points. Others who contributed points were Ben Krause, eight, and Jared Diepenbrock, three.

The B team easily defeated White City, 37-8. Ten players contributed points, led by Nathan Barney and Diepenbrock with eight each. Matt Ryff and Jacob Jennings scored four points each, Canh Antoszyk three, and Adam Kristek, Heath Hill, Zach Antoszyk, Alex Hajek, and Savik Howard, two each.
