Junior Warriors open season with tie

Marion County Junior Warriors football team opened their season Saturday with a double-overtime tie at 12 against Derby.

The fifth and sixth grade team scored in the first quarter on a 60-yard touchdown run by Josh Olsen. Derby tied the game in the third quarter.

Neither team scored in the first overtime. Isaac Hett scored on a 10-yard run in the second.

Ben Krause threw seven times, completing one pass to Bradley Klenda for 15 yards.

Defensively, Cody Wildin had two quarterback sacks. Gabe Moore and Nick Klenda each had one. Hett had one interception and Mitch Leppke knocked down one pass.

Upcoming games are Derby 2, 1:30 p.m. Saturday (at Halstead), and Sept. 21, noon, Sterling (at Newton).

Supporting the team is the Junior Warriors cheer squad, coached by Clark Whitwell. Members are Tori Schmidt, Jenna Williams, Hannah Rogers, Tiffany Christensen, Camille Christensen, Roxann Ross, Katie Maag, Kayla Baker, and D.J. Gore.
