JV boys to play for first
With victories against Inman and Hesston Saturday, the Marion High School junior varsity boys' basketball team will play top-seeded Berean Academy at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the championship game of the Hillsboro Boys' JV Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Warriors knocked off number three seed Inman, 52-43, before reaching the finals with a 57-54 victory against number two Hesston.
Brady Hudson was the leading scorer in the Inman game with 13 points, Wil Case had 11, Mitch Cady 10, and Brian Fruechting and Adam Maag each had eight.
Isaac Hett had a game-high 23 points in the Hesston victory, while Fruechting added 10, and Maag nine.
The game will be played in Hillsboro High School's Brown Gymnasium.
Case led the Warriors Friday against Lyons with 16 points in a 59-42 road victory.
Drew Maddox scored nine points, while Maag and Fruechting each had eight.
MHS picked up another home victory Jan. 29 against the Nickerson Panthers, 70-65.
Cady led the scoring for MHS with 15 points.
Other leading scorers were: Fruechting, 13; Hett and Case, 12; and Maag, 10.
