K-150 opening on schedule years ago
Joe Palic, area engineer for the Kansas Department of Transportation at Marion, reports that K-150 is expected to be opened to traffic the end of August. That is the contract completion date which was set when the project was bid two years ago.
The 17-mile stretch of highway between U.S.-77 and U.S.-50 now has widened shoulders and new concrete paving. The hills and valleys in the Chase County portion of the highway have been flattened.
The opening of the highway is too late to benefit Neal Weltha of Lincolnville. He attended summer school at Emporia and commuted by way of Middle Creek Road (250th) to U.S.-50. Although scenic, the road has many curves and has some rough stretches.
According to Maxine Svitak, mother of trucker Frank Svitak of Pilsen, the opening of K-150 will provide welcome relief for area truckers. They have been traveling the longer detour route to Emporia via U.S.-50 at Florence.
