Kansas can have perfect weather!

Kansas can have perfect weather! Maybe fall is the best season. Move over, Hawaii!

I have been trying to clean out some cupboards. What a task! I heard that this is National Clutter Week. Something to ponder. Of course, I had to read everything — little notes written by grandchildren, baby pictures, school pictures, and newspaper clippings telling of some award to a family member. How could I toss all those treasures? I started at 3 p.m. in the afternoon and when I looked at my watch it was 6 p.m. My neck and back ached so, I quit half-finished.

A few days ago I had looked through pictures. Many were ones Bud, my son, had taken in Korea. What a barren land, what bright-faced young men! It made me sad — and now, North Korea is at it again. Why can't those people work out their own problems? I suppose when a dictator is holding a gun at your head, you can't do much about it.

My sister Marge wrote that she is disturbed because children watch so much TV causing so many to be obese. She wondered what had become of hide and seek, statue, rope jump, even ring around a rosy.

I finally have "Ben Franklin" by Walter Isaacson in my hands. It's one of those huge tomes and starts out with him as a teen-ager in trouble and running away to Philadelphia to seek his fortune. I'll probably be eating and sleeping with Ben for a long time. I was told of an elderly lady who had a framed picture of Ben on her desk, her hero. I wonder who I would choose for that honor. Maybe Lindbergh, Ike, or Teddy Roosevelt. Who would you choose?"
