Kapaun Day is set for June 6
The second annual Father Kapaun Day will be held June 6 at Pilsen.
The day commemorates the life of Chaplain Kapaun, hero of the Korean War. The date also marks the 50th anniversary of the ex-POWs bringing the hand-carved crucifix to Pilsen. While the POWs were held captive by the Communists in Korea, they vowed to bring the crucifix to Pilsen to honor Father Kapaun.
The day begins with Mass at 3 p.m. in St. John Nepomucene Church, Holy Family Parish, Pilsen. Organizers are working on a special program and presentation with one of the POWs.
A meal will be served in the church dining room. A free will donation will be accepted.
