Kapaun Day is Sunday
The public is invited to a celebration honoring Chaplain Emil Kapaun beginning at 2:30 p.m. Sunday between the grotto and statue at St. John Nepomucene Church, Holy Family Parish, Pilsen.
"God Bless America," will be sung, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a Living Rosary.
Father Steven Gronert, pastor of Holy Family Parish, Marion County, will lead a prayer service followed by the recitation of the Glorious Mysteries by groups from the Pilsen and Tampa communities.
Brian Bina of Marion will lead the closing prayers.
The procession into the church will be led by Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and musicians.
Holy Mass will be said by Fr. John Hotze and concelebrants from the Wichita diocese.
Following the Mass, there will be time for sharing personal testimonies about Chaplain Kapaun. Memories will be shared of him as a boy, young man, parish priest, soldier, and prisoner of war.
Archbishop Hanna's one-hour video, "Catholic Chaplain in Combat Boots," will be available for sale throughout the day.
The day's events conclude with a potluck supper in the parish dining room. Meat has been donated, but everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for the meal.
The committee hopes this will become an annual event.
