Karaoke contest offers cash prizes
The annual Chingawassa Days karaoke contest will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 6 on the main stage in Central Park.
The contest will have three categories: best performance by an adult, best performance by youth, and novelty.
The adult category is for anyone graduating from high school prior to 2003. First place is $150, second is $50, and third is $10.
The youth category is for anyone graduating from high school in 2003 or after. Prizes are $50 for first, $30 for second, and $10 for third.
Contestants in these categories will be judged primarily on vocal quality and singing. Costumes, choreography, and non-vocal performance may be considered by the judges but will be secondary to vocal quality.
There is no age breakdown in the novelty category. A prize of $100 will be awarded for $100, $40 for second, and $10 for third. Judges may consider vocal quality but primary emphasis is on presentation, costumes, and fun. The idea is to entertain the audience.
Contestants may enter more than one division, but may be limited to one performance at the judges' discretion.
Contestants are encouraged, but not required, to pre-register at Gene's Travel, and must check-in at the concert stage by 6:45 p.m. Failure to appear may result in your spot being assigned to another contestant.
Gene Winkler has a wide selection of hundreds of songs from which to choose — from country to rock and anything in between. However, contestants are welcome to supply their own CDs.
To pre-register or to select music, see Gene Winkler, 426 E. Main, Marion.
