Karen Pruitt
Karen C. Pruitt, 72, died March 30, 2008, at Flint Hills Care Center, Emporia.
Born July 20, 1935, at Wichita, she was the daughter of H. Floyd and Marie (Whitaker) Slater.
She attended Florence High School and graduated from Emporia State University with bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education.
She taught third grade at Walnut Elementary School, Emporia, for more than 30 years. She was a member of First Christian Church, Emporia.
On June 3, 1956, she married E.M. "Gene" Pruitt.
Survivors include her husband, E.M. "Gene" Pruitt of Emporia; two sons, Steve Pruitt of Wichita and Craig Pruitt of Austin, Texas; daughter, Penny Fleming of Waverly; brother, Harold Slater of New Mexico; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Emporia, with Pastor Steve Goad officiating.
Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.
A memorial fund has been established with the St. Jude Cancer Research Center in care of Zeiner Funeral Home.
