Key Club keeps busy with activities

The Key Club of Marion High School sponsored activities this week in recognition of Red Ribbon Week.

Members organized some seventh and eight grade students in a "Chain of Life" activity. Students wrote down the names of loved ones — family and friends who would be affected by an alcohol-related death — on a note card and taped the cards together to make a chain.

On Wednesday, the club members participated in the Drug Store Project for the sixth graders.

Sixteen club members painted their faces white on Thursday to depict the 16 people who die daily due to alcohol-related accidents.

"The club has been really busy," said Kylie Hardey, president. "We've also grown."

The club, sponsored by the Marion Kiwanis, was chartered last April and had 19 members. This year, there are 31 paid members.

Projects completed so far this year has been the painting of the big "M," the third annual Coats for Kids coat drive, and just completed interviews for student assistants at Marion Elementary School.

Future projects include a leaf raking contest.
