Key Club rakes leaves for elderly
Members of the Marion High School Key Club participated Saturday in the first annual "Rake and Run."
The event was planned by the members to assist elderly and disabled citizens in Marion with yard clean up. Club members raked, bagged, and hauled leaves.
The "competition" began with the students dividing into two teams. Each team was assigned three yards to rake and clean up.
During the course of the race, volunteers were surprised by grateful homeowners with snacks and drinks.
"We should have called it 'Rake and Eat,'" said Roger Schwab, sponsor of the Marion Key Club. "Everyone who participated was a winner."
Members who participated were Adrienne Chamberland, Kara Holt, Brandi Peterie-Shipman, Amber Richmond, Erin Richmond, Misti Richmond, Molly Rhodes, Jandee Sharp, Whitney Wear, Sarah Williams, and Katie Zogelman. Schwab and two parent volunteers Rodney Richmond and Tim Richmond also participated.
