Kiwanis Club sponsors PPK
Forty youths invaded Marion's Warrior Stadium Sunday to compete in the local qualifying event for the annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition, sponsored by the Marion Kiwanis Club.
Originally developed in the 1960s by Ford Motor Company, the current version of the event is under the auspices of NFL Youth Football.
Boys and girls competed in four separate age divisions: eight/nine-year-olds, 10/11-year-olds, 12/13-year-olds, and 14/15-year olds.
Each competitor was given one opportunity to punt, pass, and kick a football for distance and accuracy. The distance an attempt deviated from the center line was deducted from the overall distance for each event. Scores for all three events were added together to come up with a contestant's overall score.
First-place finishers in each of the boys' and girls' divisions qualified for sectional competition Oct. 29 in Wellington.
The top three finishers in each division were:
8/9 Boys: Cody Shipman, 1st, 101'9"; Mason Pederson, 2nd; Landon Pederson, 3rd.
8/9 Girls: Bailey Robson, 1st, 49'5"; Elizabeth Meyer, 2nd.
10/11 Boys: Caleb Williams, 1st, 191'8"; Trever Kinnersley, 2nd; Nick Meyer, 3rd.
10/11 Girls: Kaelin Thierolf, 1st, 150'5"; Katey Ehrlich, 2nd; Monica Spachek, 3rd.
12/13 Boys: Jordan Versch, 1st, 244'9"; Colten Johnson, 2nd; Kody Brooks, 3rd.
