Klenda sets record at Bennington

Garrard wins distance runs

Centre High School sophomore Jackie Klenda broke the school record in girls' pole vault Friday at the Bennington track meet.

Klenda cleared seven feet, nine inches to set a new school record. She set the previous record with a seven-foot finish as a freshman.

Senior Laura Klenda won the javelin contest with a throw of 121 feet, eight inches.

The girls' team finished in seventh place.

In boys' events, junior Justin Garrard placed first in the 1600-meter run with a time of four minutes, 53.45 seconds, and first in the 3200-meter run at 10:34.61.

Coach Marc Grout was pleased with the team's third-place finish among a field of 14.

"They had a really good showing," he said.
