Konecnys, Muellers are great-grandparents

Gene and Vernie Konecny of Pilsen and Art and Betty Mueller are the proud great-grandparents of Austin Travis Schroeder, born Jan. 11 to Travis and Christina Schroeder. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Jacintha and Frank Davis of Festus, Mo., and Doug and Brenda Mueller of Ixonia, Wis.

Stephanie Classen of Marion, Eleanor Murphy, and Martha Melcher were Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

Andrea Kleiber stopped Sunday evening to visit her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs after church Sunday were Ashton Kerbs and Jesse Smith of Salina and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn.

Tom and Dee Duggan spent the weekend in Bartlesville, Okla., visiting Ernie and Darlene Kite. En route to Oklahoma Friday they visited Ernie Bonham and his friend Brenda at Tyro.

Jim Clemmer attended a Lions Club zone meeting Saturday in Salina. Mary Clemmer accompanied him and spent the day with Don and Jo Clemmer.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki enjoyed dinner out Saturday in Wichita.

John and Pat Schwartzman spent Sunday with his mother, Helen Schwartzman.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt visited Sunday afternoon with Milda Krauter at Marion Manor in Marion.

Gary and Carole Spohn visited Saturday with Ryan and Claudette Spohn, Adam and Lauren in Manhattan.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Saturday afternoon and took Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor and Allison's friend, Brice Dawson, out to eat in celebration of Connie's birthday which was Jan. 6.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt attended a dinner, reception, and dance Saturday evening at the community building in Herington in celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Joe and Connie Alvarez.

Georgia Spohn took Marguerite Goertz of Hillsboro out for dinner Saturday in Marion.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Russ and Julie Kerbs, and Jane Vajnar were among those attending a fifth grade basketball game Saturday morning between Centre and Peabody-Burns in Marion. Rustyn Kerbs was on the Centre team.

Paul and Edna Backhus, Phyllis Mueller, and Rod Mueller attended a concert in Century II Friday evening in Wichita. Singers performing were Joe Diffie and Ashley Dark.

Kaylee Hall of Herington spent Friday night and Saturday with her grandparents, Tom and Dee Duggan.

Members of Prairie Pals and some guests enjoyed supper out Friday evening in Smolan as a belated Christmas celebration. Those present included Jim and Mary Clemmer, Walt and Iona Dietrich, Dave and Shirley Krause, Melissa Stuchlik, Virginia Bentz, Peggy Kleiber, Jeanne Rziha, Monica Leihy, Michele Berens, and Lori Meyer and Maura.

Diane Steiner and Jane Vajnar attended the Joe Diffie concert Friday evening in Wichita.

The city of Tampa entertained with an appreciation dinner Thursday evening at the café for the businesses and individuals who donated money for the new Tampa directional sign on K-15 and the Donahue Corporation who manufactured the sign. The dinner was served by Marvin and Maggie Meisinger who also contributed to the sign. Those attending were Ed and Mary Costello, Chris Costello, Mickey Lundy, Stan Utting, Adeline Bernhardt, Margaret Jirak, Magdalen Dvorak, Gary and Jayann Schneider, Leona Kleiber, Joan Donahue, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Remmers, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Stika, Brad and Sharon Matz (Sharon lettered the sign), Wilbert and Donna Backhus, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Tim and Monica Svoboda, Paul and Edna Backhus, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Gary and Carole Spohn, Pastor Clark and Kathy Davis, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Nathen Bailey and Judy Gratz, Tom and Dee Duggan, and Earl and Eloise Mueller.

Autumn Chisholm, Mildred Hamm, Eleanor Herbel, and Jane Vajnar attended the monthly meeting Thursday evening of King's Daughters at the Baptist parsonage in Durham. The setting was changed because of work being done at the church. Shirley Hamm and Betty Meier were hostesses. Eleanor presented a mission study, and Jane led a lesson on being a mentor. Edie Ollenburger ceded the president's position to Ruth Hamm. Autumn Chisholm took over the job of vice president and program chairman from Valera Hamm. Kay Carlson stepped into Dorene Joy's post as secretary, and Donna Diener accepted the treasury from Janice Kaufman.

The St. John Lutheran Women's missionary league met Jan. 7 at the church with Adeline Bernhardt as hostess. Joyce Medley led the opening and closing devotions, and Pastor Clark Davis presented the topic.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Friday morning with Milda Krauter at Marion Manor in Marion.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended the funeral Jan. 5 of Rex Seibel in McPherson and burial at Ebenfeld.

Agnes Steinert of Hillsboro attended the rosary Jan. 6 for Elsie Vainer at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Leona Kleiber attended her funeral Jan. 7 at Pilsen. Virginia Vainer Means of Napa, Calif., was a Thursday overnight guest of Agnes. Leona met them at the Steinert home Friday morning and the three went to McPherson to meet another classmate, Esther Loy of McPherson, where they were Esther's luncheon guests. After lunch, they went to Esther and Steve Loy's home to with Steve. Later in the afternoon Virginia left for Great Bend to spend time with her brother Jim and his family before returning home to California.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended the 95th birthday party Jan. 3 for Harold Taylor at the senior center in Hillsboro.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer and Kristin Srajer of Omaha, Neb., came Jan. 2 to spend a couple days visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. All had dinner and supper Friday at Tillie's and at Jim and Kris' on Saturday, when they opened Christmas presents. The Srajers returned Sunday to Omaha.

Irma Benda spent the afternoon of Jan. 2 with Helen Schwartzman.

Both Adam and Kaylee Hall spent Tuesday with the Dee Duggans. Carolyn Duggan of Hutchinson was an additional visitor.
