A shower was held at Holy Family activity center Saturday afternoon for Tina Wood, bride-elect of Brendan Kraus. Youngtown people reporting they attended were Vickie Kraus, Rita Kraus, Eileen Sieger, and Rose Davidson and Rachel.

Melanie Dunn, Grant and Tristan of Coldwater and Chris and Kristi Mercer and Colton of Topeka are houseguests this week of Don and Vickie Kraus. Special Saturday night supper guests were Tina Wood's parents, Gary and Donna Wood, and her sister Tammi and daughter Ashton.

Dennis and Joyce Kraus of Wichita were Saturday dinner guests of Ray and Rita Kraus. They had supper together following the bridal shower for Tina Wood, then all four went to Mass before Dennis and Joyce returned to Wichita.

Eileen Sieger was a luncheon guest on Tuesday of Juanita Bonebrake in Emporia.

Jeff Makovec spent the weekend with his parents, Faye and Jerry. Grandson Aaron Makovec is spending time this week with Faye and Jerry.

We were saddened by the death Wednesday morning of R.J. Bateman. His smiles will be missed by all of us. I talked to him first on Monday mornings and he always made me laugh. Neighbors reporting attending his funeral were Beth and Howard Collett, Skip and Eileen Sieger, Lawrence and Dorothy Gilbert, Paul and Kathy Swan, Vicki Smolik, Don and Vickie Kraus, Kristi Mercer, Ken and Margie Nienstedt, Ray and Jamie Helmer, Leonard and Rosalie Klassen, Faye and Jerry Makovec, and Margaret Ireland.

Vicki Smolik and Edmund Steiner attended the 50th wedding anniversary reception and dance Sunday afternoon and evening honoring Florian and Peggy Silhan at the Caprice Ballroom at Goddard.

Marilyn Geis, Virginia Downing, and Max and Donna Hayen drove to Topeka Sunday to attend the 75th birthday party and retirement ceremony of Leon Hayen at the First Methodist Church.

Ron and Deb Navrat brought supper Saturday night to Marie Navrat.

I made a couple of cream pies this week and discovered that the recipe on page 50 of the Youngtown cookbook omitted the one cup of coconut needed to make a coconut cream pie — sorry!

Betty Ireland called Saturday morning to tell me that Walt is at Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in El Dorado. He had fallen and cracked some bones. For those wishing to send cards, his address is 1313 S. High, El Dorado KS 67042. Betty had put a message on my answering machine while I was in Montana. When I returned home there were no messages and this is the second person calling to tell me she had left a message. I don't know how the messages got erased, but my clocks were all needing to be set, so I can only guess power being off caused the problem.

Diana and Clint Jost hosted a Father's Day dinner honoring Cy and L.Dena Goertz. Additional guests were John Jost, Tory Hecht, James Jost, Naomi Nelson, Lorene Jost, and Goldie Steely.

Sarah Davidson flew to Atlanta last week to attend a Community in Schools conference. Rose Davidson helped with the tryouts for children's summer theater last week. Rachel Davidson tired out for the play and she did get a part.

Rose and Greg Davidson, Sarah and Rachel had Sunday night supper out to celebrate both Father's Day and Rose and Greg's 18th wedding anniversary.

Beth and Howard Collett and Collette Erickson flew to Nevada City, Calif., to attend the high school graduation of Elizabeth Gravenstein, daughter of Martin and Melinda Gravenstein from Union High School. This was Collette's first trip to visit Melinda, so they had a great time.

Howard and Beth Collett attended the wedding of Maggie Stauffer to Chris Pummer Saturday afternoon at the Bazaar school house in Chase County.

Collette and Rick Erickson, Katie and Liz, Keith and Hank Collett, and John and Rita Spinden were Sunday visitors at the Howard Collett farm.

Rosalie Klassen was a guest in Hillsboro Saturday afternoon at a layette shower for Charla Duerksen.

Emily Johnson came out Thursday and gave me another computer lesson. She also did a lot of needed work around my place. It's wonderful to have young people help with difficult jobs.
