Lady Cougars lose two
The Lady Cougars went 1-1 during the past week, losing to White City at home, 58-36, and defeating St. Xavier at Junction City, 60-36.
The girls are 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the league. Coach Greg Wyatt feels the team has as good a chance as anybody else in the league to win games in this week's Eisenhower League tournament.
"We haven't put together an entire game yet," Wyatt noted. "We have to be more consistent."
Centre vs. White City
The Lady Cougars struggled in the battle against a quick, aggressive White City team. The game started slowly and the two teams were tied 7-7 at 2:50 in the first quarter.
White City pulled ahead 11-7 by the end of the quarter and retained the lead for the remainder of the game.
Cold shooting and fouling problems for Centre led to a half-time score of 27-13 in White City's favor.
Several White City treys early in the third quarter increased their lead to 33-15. At the end of the quarter, Centre trailed, 44-19.
Two treys by Centre, one by Jackie Klenda, the other by Megan Gutsch, gave the Lady Cougars a boost at the start of the fourth quarter. But the Lady Huskies didn't slow down. They won the game by 18 points.
The only player in double digits was Laura Klenda, with 13 points. She also led defensively, with 11 rebounds. Jill Fenske had three assists.

The junior varsity defeated White City, 61-24. Alisha Barney scored 15 points, followed by Brittany Owens, with 10.
Other scorers were: Selena Seifert, nine; Teaira Turner, eight; Alyssa Luna, six; Chelsey Tajchman, five; Shaina Makovec, four; and Gloria Belton and Jessica Deines, two each.
Centre vs. St. Xavier
The Lady Cougars played a St. Xavier team with five players on the roster. One player was out of the game temporarily because of an injury. However, the Lady Rams put up a good fight, with two girls in double digits of 21 and 14.
At the end of the first quarter, Centre led 14-4, and at half-time, 26-14. The girls increased their lead 43-24 in the third quarter. By the end of the game, the St. Xavier team was reduced to three players, resulting in an easy win for the Lady Cougars.
Almost all the girls on the team contributed to the final score. Laura Klenda led with 14 points, followed by Raschelle Jirak with 10.
L. Klenda led defensively with 15 rebounds.
