Lady Cougars place third in Eisenhower League

Centre High School volleyball team defeated Wakefield and Bennington Saturday after losing to White City to claim third place in the Eisenhower League tournament at Wakefield. White City placed first, Hope second.

In Centre's first match, White City defeated Centre in two games, 13-25 and 20-25. Only two service points were earned in the first game, one by Brianne Stahlecker, the other by Alyssa Luna. Stahlecker aced one serve. Eleven rally points were tallied.

In game two, Teaira Turner served for five points, followed by Kylie Burhoop two, and Alisha Barney one. Twelve rally points were tallied.

The girls were 30 for 34 in serves on the match. Stahlecker set the ball 27 of 28 attempts, eight resulting in kills. Luna was 8-9, two for a kill.

Jill Fenske and Megan Gutsch were leading hitters, each completing 11 of 12 spike attempts. Gutch killed the ball five times, Fenske once.

Other hitters were: Jackie Klenda 9-12, four kills; Barney 7-7, two kills, one block; and Luna, one block.

Centre won the match against Wakefield in two games, 25-14 and 25-19. The team served 21-25 in game one. Points were provided by Stahlecker five, Turner four, Selena Seifert three, Klenda two, and Fenske one. Ten rally points were added.

Serving was 100 percent in game two. Stahlecker was credited with seven service points, followed by Turner three, Luna two, Klenda one, and Fenske one. Eleven rally points were tallied.

Stahlecker aced the ball six times, Seifert two, Turner two, and Klenda one. Stahlecker set the ball a perfect 21-21, four for a kill. Luna was 8-10.

Gutsch led at the front line with eight spikes of nine attempts, two kills, and one block. Others were Luna 2-5, Burhoop 1-2, two blocks; Fenske 6-8, two kills; Klenda 2-6, one kill; Barney 2-4, one kill.

In the third match of the day, the girls defeated Bennington in two games, 25-21 and 25-8.

In game one, the team was 23-24 in serving. Burhoop was credited with six service points, Fenske three, and Turner, Stahlecker, and Klenda one each. Twelve rally points were tallied.

In game two, Klenda served for nine, Luna and Stahlecker six each. They completed 22 of 24. Four rally points were added.

Individual aces were provided by Klenda four, Stahlecker three, and Luna, Burhoop, and Turner one each.

Stahlecker set the ball 23 of 26 attempts, seven for a kill. Luna was a perfect 7-7, four for a kill.

Alisha Barney was leading hitter, with 10 of 13 spike attempts, six kills, and four blocks. She was followed by Klenda 8-10, three kills, and two blocks.

Other hitters were Luna 1-2, one kill, two blocks; Fenske 6-7, four kills; Gutsch 5-5, three kills, one block.

Centre finished the tournament with a winning record of 15-10.

The regional volleyball tournament was Tuesday at Centre High School. Results were not available at press time.
