Lady Cougars seeded second in league tourney
Seifert leads Cougars in victory against Wakefield

After defeating Wakefield Jan. 10 on their home court by a score of 66-36, Centre girls' basketball team entered the first round of the Eisenhower League tournament Tuesday with a record of 6-3.
Seeded second, they took on seventh-seeded Solomon with a record of 0-7. Results were not available at press time.
In the game against Wakefield, the Lady Cougars jumped out to a first-quarter 15-5 lead and exploded in the second quarter, scoring 24 points. They led 39-15 at halftime.
Wakefield picked up their play in the second half but were outscored 15-13 and 12-8 in the final two quarters to give Centre a 30-point win.
Both teams completed two three-point goals but Centre was 40-of-70 overall compared to 26-of 47 by Wakefield.
Centre out-rebounded Wakefield 38-to-34 and stole the ball 26 times compared to 12 by Wakefield.
Selena Seifert was leading scorer with 17 points, followed by Megan Gutsch with 12 and Jackie Klenda with 11. Teaira Turner provided seven assists.
Gutsch grabbed 14 rebounds and five steals, and Jenna Beneke blocked three shots.
The victory over Wakefield gave Greg Wyatt his 400th win in a long coaching career.
The junior varsity defeated Wakefield, 53-47. Leann Pankratz led scoring with 17 points, followed by Kylie Burhoop with 12.
Nellie Hill grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Jessica Deines provided four assists and six steals.
