Lady Warriors take hard loss from Sacred Heart
Despite a good defense, the Marion High School Lady Warriors went down in defeat Tuesday at the hands of league opponent Sacred Heart, 49-57.
"We played awfully good defense, but their best player had 10 points in the fourth quarter," said head coach Daryl Enos
"We missed some baskets and turned around and fouled late in the fourth quarter," Enos added. "We fouled on their last possession and could never get over the hump."
Scoring — or a lack of it — also posed a problem for the Lady Warriors.
"We had some girls who'd put up shots, but didn't score. We need point production out of them to win," he said.
In a night of bad news, Emmy Bowers was called for a foul that wasn't hers and had to take the bench, Enos said.
"That kind of hurt," he added.
Enos said it was a hard loss for the Marion girls because they truly wanted the win.
"The seniors tell me they've never beaten Sacred Heart," Enos said. "We'll have another chance this year, but it's at their place."
Enos said that all in all the girls played well and would have done better if they could have run the fast break consistently.
"They're just not disciplined enough at this point. But every time they did it we scored on them," he said.
Brandi Peterie-Shipman and Krista Zogelman were both in double figures for the night with 16 and 15 respectively, Enos said.
"Caitlin O'Dell did a good job defensively for us. We probably should have stuck her on their best player, but now that's 20-20 hindsight," the coach said.
With the loss, the Lady Warriors are now 2-1 in league play. Overall, they are currently 3-4.

Junior Varsity
The Lady Warriors junior varsity were defeated by Sacred Heart, 34-49.
Ahead by 10 in the first quarter, Marion retained a one-point lead going into the half. However, by the end of the third, Sacred Heart had an 11-point lead.
"We had a good first quarter than we just couldn't make basket," Enos said. "And once you start questioning your shooting and nothing goes in, you sometimes forget to play."
