Lady Warriors win in overtime
The Marion Lady Warriors came up short last week against Inman and St. John's, but pulled out an overtime win against Burrton during the Inman Tournament.
Hosting Inman Tuesday in Marion during the first round, the Marion girls basketball team lost 43-62. Journeying to Inman Thursday, the girls lost to St. John's 41-64; then Friday they defeated Burrton 52-49.
Inman
Marion head coach Daryl Enos said he felt the Lady Warriors played pretty well in their game against Inman as compared to their season opener four days earlier against Hillsboro.
"I think we played pretty well and were a lot more aggressive until we seemed to run out of gas in the fourth quarter," Enos said. "We were close until the last six to seven minutes of the game.
Inman used a full court press which made play challenging for the Marion girls.
"Inman is one of the top teams in their classification," Enos said "It was important for us to see where we're at."

St. John's
"We simply forgot to show up that day," coach Enos said. "We had bad shooting, too many turnovers, and we weren't nearly aggressive enough. "
On the other hand, St. John's is "no slouch," Enos said. "They're ranked number six in 2-A."
Enos said St. John's contested every loose ball, and caused the Warrior girls to turn over the ball. "We had 32 turnovers and 21 rebounds, some of which were offensive."

Burrton
Meeting Burrton in the final round of the competition, the Lady Warriors had spurts where they played well and spurts where they didn't, the coach said.
The Marion girls won in overtime, 52-49.
"We used seven different defenses that night, had some rotation problems and had way too many turnovers," he said. "We should have had it won in regulation."
Burrton had two shots at the free throw line with two seconds to go in the fourth. One shot went in, while the second didn't, sending the game into overtime, Enos said.
"We played pretty decent in overtime. We hit pretty well and handled it better," he said.
The Lady Warriors now begin Cottonwood Valley League action having met Chase County Tuesday. They will meet Council Grove on Friday.
