Lake: Roller coaster temperatures confuse fish

This has been quite a roller-coaster week. Nice warm weather one day, then cold the next. We couldn't quite decide what Friday night's storm was — rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow, hail, or all of the above. It sure did turn cold in a hurry and didn't the wind blow? No wonder the fish can't decide whether to bite or not. I can't decide whether to get out the summer clothes or to keep wearing the winter ones.
We did have some bass boat fishermen again on Sunday. They reported catching some Kentucky bass. The water temperature was up to 45 degrees last week but, with the north wind and cold temperatures, it's down to 40 again.
They are catching a few nice crappie out of the heated dock. A few small bass also are being taken inside and outside of the dock. Remember — bass and saugeye have to be 18 inches before you can keep them.
The warm days of last week produced a few bank fishermen around the lake. They were fishing for channel cat, but I didn't hear of anyone catching any. Let me know if you catch any. Spring is just around the corner and fishing is going to take off any day!
I finally got word back from Monarch Watch. I have one butterfly that was found in Mexico. They didn't say if it was alive or dead. It was one that I tagged here at the lake from our front yard. It had flown 1,305 miles. Hopefully I will get some more back when they update the page. You can go to Monarch Watch.org on the Internet to see the list or to read about the program.
Spring break is this week. The weatherman was telling how warm it's going to be in Florida and southern Texas for the kids on the beach. Makes you want to pack up and head south. Not! You probably won't be able to find a spot on the beach to sit, so guess I'll just stay here.
Speaking of spring, when I looked at the calendar, Easter is just a few weeks away. It's either early this year or I'm behind. Seems like it was just Christmas! (Sure sign of old age.) I've got to get my bunnies out!
