Laurence Louis
Laurence G. Louis, 85, died Dec. 11, 2003.
He was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Florence.
He worked on his uncle's farm while in school and in June 1940, joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy in World War II, was captured by the Japanese and was a prisoner of war until August 1945.
He returned to Kansas on leave and in October 1945, married Doris Lewis, who is a twin sister of Dorothy (Lewis) Scharenberg of Cedar Point.
He stayed in the Navy and was an instructor in Great Lakes, Ill. He served in the Korean war and received a meritorious service award for his service.
He retired from the Navy in 1960 and was a successful real estate broker in California for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; a daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Steven Kerber; and one granddaughter.
Burial was Dec. 17 in Tahoma National Cemetery with full military honors.
