Legacy Park owners no strangers to county

New faces and a new name now greet residents and guests at a Peabody nursing center.

Peabody Community Living Center is now Legacy Park, under the new ownership of Mid-America Health Centers, Inc., of Wichita. . Charles Wurth serves as president. Paul Wurth serves as chief executive officer, with 25 years of health care experience. Charles E. Wurth will serve as site manager of Legacy Park, and David Wurth will serve as special projects manager.

Alan Yock, chairman of the board of the Peabody Community Living Center, said the Wurth family will continue to maintain high-quality care and service to residents of the new Legacy Park.

"Mid-America Health Centers has a good record of service, and we believe they will continue in our tradition of care," Yock said.

Charles Wurth said Mid-America, being a family-owned and operated company, will continue to provide a "personal touch" to the quality of geriatric care at Legacy Park. He said the buildings and grounds will continue to be maintained and improved with new furniture, equipment, and landscaping forthcoming this summer.

Wurth also said Legacy Park's Alzheimer's unit will be upgraded by improving the 27 residential care apartments and commons area.

Program expansion also is being implemented, Wurth said. This includes becoming Medicare certified to expand the physical, occupational, and speech therapy available to residents with payments coming from their Medicare insurance coverage.

A Home Care program also will be started late this summer.

In the nursing unit, the facility will provide more private rooms for residents' satisfaction and privacy. Wurth said the goal was for each residential room to be as private as possible.

Mid-America Health Centers is no stranger in this area. The company previously owned and operated nursing homes in Marion and Cottonwood alls.

The company, founded in 1968, has managed or owned 25 nursing facilities and 10 assisted living centers. Currently, the company owns, leases, and manages 188 skilled nursing, 62 assisted living, and 72 dementia-specific beds. Properties are located at Coffeyville, Iola, Marysville, Lincoln, and Blue Rapids.
