Lela Siebert
Lela Siebert, 91, died May 31 at Carbondale, Colo.
Cecilia Mary Hunninghake was born on June 23, 1911. Lela was the eldest of seven children born to Anna Christina and Frederich "Fritz" Hunninghake.
She married Ellsworth Thomson "Bud" Siebert at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Denver, Colo., on Sept. 6, 1930. She lived at Emporia from 1930 to 1972.
Lela was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church, the ladies' altar society, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1972.
In 1972, she moved to Pilsen to become a housekeeper for Monsignor Arthur Tonne at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. She lived there until they moved to Marion in 1991. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish, St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary, and Athena Study Club.
She moved to Basalt, Colo., in 2002 to live with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter Susann and son-in-law Ted Guy of Basalt, Colo., daughter Carol Pilant, Lawrence; sons Donald "Corky" Siebert, Wichita and Douglas Siebert, and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son Ronald in 1950 and her husband in 1951.
Her funeral Mass was held Monday evening at St. Mary of the Crown Catholic church in Carbondale, Colo.
