Leo Club for youths organized at Tampa
An exciting event took place at Tampa when another Leo Club was welcomed into the International Association of Lions Clubs and Kansas Lions District K-6.
Centre Leo Club organizational night celebration was held Sunday afternoon at Tampa Senior Center with about 75 Leos, Lions, and guests in attendance.
Leo Clubs are a project of Lions Clubs International and must be sponsored by a Lions Club.
Lion Jim Clemmer, president of the sponsoring Tampa Lions Club, served as master of ceremonies.
Speaker Tom Cooney, Leo chairman of District K-6 and of Kansas Lions, shared the history of Leo Clubs and current Leo activities in the state. He challenged the new Centre Leo Club to continue the example of community service they already have begun.
Members were initiated by past council chairman Elfrieda Funk with club advisers, Mickey Lundy and Chris Costello presenting the Leo pins and certificates.
Lion zone chairman JayAnn Schneider presided over the signing of the certificate of organization. District K-6 governor Jim Ketron installed new officers. Cash donations were given to the new Leo Club by various clubs and individuals.
The Centre Leo Club meets twice monthly at Centre High School. Members already have initiated several projects. At Christmas they collected and delivered toys for several families. Currently they are tutoring elementary school children and collecting pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
