LeRoy Dreier

Former Marion High School football coach LeRoy Dreier , 64, died April 17 at his residence at Newton.

Coach Dreier had an impressive win-loss record while coaching at Marion. He coached at Strong City before moving to Marion and also coached at Peabody later.

Born Dec. 31, 1937, at Newton, he was the son of Delbert and Dorothy (Steiner) Dreier.

He married Sandra K. Roy Feb. 1, 1958, at Emporia. She survives, at the home. Other survivors include his mother, Dorothy Dreier, Hesston; son, Jim, of Goshen, Ind.; daughters, Janelle Wilke of Derby, and Janene McAnulty of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three brothers; two sisters; and 11 grandchildren.

He also coached at Ottawa, Salina South, and Hesston high schools as well as Bethel College.

He received a bachelor's degree in education from Emporia State University and the master's degree from Kansas State University.

While attending K-State he was a graduate assistant on the staff of the KSU football team.

Dreier was a loyal member of the Harvey County Catbacker's club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

At the time of his death he was owner of Squealer's Junction hog feeding operation near Newton.

Services were held Saturday afternoon at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ, Newton, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Wilke of Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Derby, officiating.

Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Newton. Memorial funds have been established at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ and with Central Homecare and Hospice.
