Leroy Hoffman

LeRoy Hoffman, 81, died April 27, 2003, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

He was born Nov. 22, 1921, near Tampa, the son of Henry and Amelia (Haas) Hoffman.

He grew up near Tampa and graduated from Durham High School in 1939. He married Lila Link, Jan. 20, 1945, in Wichita. Two daughters were born to the couple.

LeRoy worked as an electrician as well as a mechanic for Minneapolis Moline tractor agency. He worked 30 years at Marion Hardware in sales and appliance repair. After retirement he was self-employed in appliance repair for an additional 10 years.

He spent 25 years as a volunteer fireman for the Marion Fire Department.

He was active in the Marion Christian Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, woodworking, and was a Kansas City Royals baseball fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl; and one sister, Ruby Ollek.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Hoffman of the home; two daughters, Janice Peter and Anita Hooper both of Marion; one sister, LuElla Bartel of Marion; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The service was held Thursday morning at Marion Christian Church. The officiant was Pastor Rick Branson. The eulogy was ready by Dick Schwartz. The vocalist was Mike Connell with Donna Hayen as the organist.

Casket bearers were Todd and Earl Winter, Mark Harms, John Regier, Rodean Duerksen, and Arnold Lee Lanning. Honorary bearers were William Hooper and Mick Summervill.

Interment was at the Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the Marion Christian Church and the American Cancer Society.
