Let's make it happen

Marion Advancement Campaign is on the right track. This group has shown initiative to "get something done." They've thrown down the gauntlet and issued the challenge. It's up to all of us to make the community center/theater project a reality.

When talk began about the library/depot project, naysayers were not afraid to express their disdain for the endeavor. Many didn't want the change because "that's the way it's always been." Others will voice a negative opinion no matter what the topic.

This new project will draw the same comments — probably from a lot of the same people.

Enthusiasts and supporters of the MAC project are ready to make it happen. They've bought tickets for the dinner fund-raiser, volunteered time and materials when construction begins, and more importantly, they believe the project is worthwhile and can be completed.

MAC has applied for a grant to help build the facility. The KanStep grant is based largely on community involvement and matching funds. If the grant is approved it will pay for a sizable portion of the project. The rest of the money has to come from contributions, donations, and fund-raisers.

Every little bit helps. Some will give a few dollars, others may give thousands. Those who can't make a monetary contribution will pay with "sweat equity." Each contribution is needed. Each is important.

This project won't be easy and it won't happen overnight. MAC members had the courage to make their vision known. The community has to make the project a reality. Andrew Jackson said, "One man with courage makes a majority." Can you imagine what one community with courage will accomplish?
