Letter: Class act
To the Editor:
If you missed the dedication of the CCC statue at Marion County Lake on Oct. 2, you missed a class act.
It took a couple of former Harvey County residents, Helen and Dwight Beckham, to make us native Marion Countians realize what a jewel we had here.
It is difficult to believe they researched the history, published a book, got the park and lake on the National Historical Register, raised funds for the statue, had the statue mounted on such a huge native stone, and then arranged a dedication that was so unique and well-presented. The bagpipes and Taps were special. All of this in such a short period of time.
Don Jolley did a great job as master of ceremonies. He could handle the Oscars.
I am sure Jimmy Meisner would have been very proud of the Beckhams for their contribution to the history of Marion County.
