LETTER: Henderson is retiring

Letter to The Editor

To the people of Marion-Florence USD 408:

I have had so many inquiries since the Oct. 15 issue of The Marion County Record announced that I was calling it "quits," that I thought I should respond. The statement read to the Board of Education by clerk Martin Tice was not one of resignation as stated in The Marion County Record, but was rather an announcement of my intent to retire at the end of June. I am not quitting.

I will turn 65 in March, and Cathy and I have a few things we want to do while we still can.

Several folks have asked, "Where are you going?" We are not going anywhere! We both like Marion very much, and with family in the area, especially the two granddaughters, 114 S. Lincoln will be home for the foreseeable future.

I appreciate the expressions of support during the past week. As the time when I actually walk out of this office draws nearer, I will more completely state my thoughts and feelings about the staff of USD 408, the Board of Education and this wonderful community. Until then, we will continue to focus on making things better for all our children.
