Awash in history

To the Editor:

I hope when it comes time to tear down the bath house at Marion Pool, special care will be taken of the plaque by the front door that lists the names of those responsible for getting the first city pool. I hope it will be mounted alongside the new plaque with the names of the people now in charge of acquiring the new pool.

Mayor Ira Newcomer, commissioners Paul Keazer and Earl Kreuter spent a lot of time and effort researching to find the best pool available at the time.

Ed Frickey was the first manager of the pool and I was one of the first lifeguards.

When I tell friends that Marion, a small town in Kansas, had a steel pool in the late 1950s they are really impressed.

Now, 50 years later, it is time to move on, but what piece of equipment that old doesn't have rust and problems? It served Marion well and provided enjoyment to lots of people in the area.

Congratulations and best wishes for the new pool.
