LETTERS: Acknowledge dependence
To the Editor:
I know I'm an outsider looking in, but I can't help thinking of the big picture. When we just look into our little self world, we fail to see the real issue: why our rural and small communities are dying.
Maybe if we could see the big picture, that every city, small or great, is dependent from outside, that would change the debate! How do you compromise if there is no solution?
What if there were no truckers, farmers, ranchers, etc.? City folks don't exist by themselves. They are totally dependent for everything. We wonder why our towns are losing.
Could it be that in our own self-interest, we, the cities, have killed the goose that lays the golden egg, rather than acknowledging our dependence and that we couldn't exist on your own?
Why do you think truckers are more dangerous than other drivers? What if there was no private sector where there are risks taken to provide goods and services and to create jobs?
What gives the abundance that we enjoy every day? If we want to be so picky, then let's just shut down big oil, coal, farming, ranching because it is so polluting.
Remember the old days? The townspeople welcomed the cattle drives down the main street and the railroads that brought what they wanted and needed. They knew what fed them and gave them their livelihood.
