LETTERS: City crews outstanding

To the Editor:

During the frigid weekend of Feb.7, the water line that serves Case & Son Insurance and Hannaford Title Company froze, leaving our two businesses without water. We were hopeful that above-freezing temperatures early in the next week would solve the problem. However, we were still without water Wednesday morning.

With colder temperatures on the way, we contacted the City of Marion. Within 10 minutes, Harvey Sanders and his crew were on-site trying to find a solution. They spent the entire day trying to thaw out the line that runs under our concrete parking lot. (Old timers will remember that our parking lot was once the floor of Duckwall's, therefore it was not necessary to run the original lines very deep.)

Their efforts to thaw the line using electrical current did not succeed. So, the next morning they hooked up a temporary line from a nearby fire hydrant into our buildings in order to provide us with water. They continued this service for nearly a week until warmer temperatures thawed the line.

We appreciate the prompt service that we received, and commend the City of Marion for once again going above and beyond the call of duty.
