LETTERS: Country club responds

To the Editor:

As the executive board of the Marion Country Club we felt it necessary to respond to Eric Meyer's editorial "Do You Really Care?" about the cost of membership to the Marion Country Club.

First we feel it is important to point out that Eric's parents were part of the "financial elite" for years. Second, a full golf membership to the Marion Country Club is less than $50 per month and a social membership to the club is less than $25 per month, which means it is less than your cable TV, cell phone, and Internet access.

The benefits of membership to the Marion Country Club are many: exercise, fellowship with others in the community, family time at the pool and/or golf course, not to mention the economic benefits to our town and the beauty of our course.

We are quite proud of the Marion Country Club, and will do everything we can to promote it. WE DO CARE about this town and ways to make it better, and eliminating the negativity about our community in the paper would be a great start. We hope others will consider ways to come up with $25-$50 per month to join our quaint little reasonably-priced club.
