LETTERS: Cub Scouting is fun

To the Editor:

My name is Patrick Hodson and I'm a Cub Scout in Marion Pack 102. My leaders are Dave Richmond, Chris Meierhoff, and Don Molleker.

I recently won first place in the Pinewood Derby Race. The Pinewood Derby is a race of seven-inch pinewood cars weighing up to five ounces. The trophies awarded are first, second, third, and best design.

The kit comes with a block of wood, four wheels, four axles, and your assigned number. I have raced in the Pinewood Derby four times. In my first race, I won the trophy for third place. In my second and third years I won no trophies but had a lot of fun, then won first place my final year. The part that is the most fun is watching your car zoom down the track with the other cars.

In Scouts we get to go on camp-outs, make projects out of wood, learn first aid, how to help the environment, what to do in emergency situations, and how to be helpful around the house.

We also sell popcorn to earn money for our summer camp-out and earn prizes.

I encourage everyone to join Scouts because it is a great learning experience and a lot of fun. If interested, please call our Cub Master, Jackie Palic, at 381-2511.
