LETTERS: Cut the fat

To the Editor:

As I sit and read the letter from Miss Fenske, I realize how some students are really in tune with what is going on around them. I applaud her on her observation and guts to print her feelings.

I am by no means an expert on the financial situation of various levels of government funding but I have a few ideas of my own.

The new vehicles were probably funded in part by grants or involved in an equipment roll over program which makes newer vehicle much cheaper. I don't think public safety spending should ever be questioned. Police, fire, or EMT, anything to help them do the job better or safer is a dollar well spent.

When a person questions school finance, the first things to pop up are raise the tax, or cut the programs. But NEVER have I heard the administration offer to take a pay cut!

Look at the average teacher salary . . . pretty pathetic, then look at the administration salary. A superintendent is making around $60,000! What good is he to the students? Is there a direct benefit? If you want to improve the curriculum, cut the fat . . . and start at the top.

I would be very curious to see if any of the administrators would be willing to take a pay cut? Honestly, they should do an average of the town, and the salary should be based off of that.
