LETTERS: Deplorable
An open letter:
Evil begets evil and has a domino effect.
According to a master mechanic at Wichita, a junk engine was put into my Oldsmobile; when I assumed it was a "rebuilt and overhauled" engine.
He also reported that it was a poor job of installation.
He was proven to be right. I've had continual breakdowns in the past six months of driving it. I've had to be towed four times.
I went for months without transportation while he had it in his shop at Hillsboro.
It is awful to be "broken down" on a highway. It made me suffer a lot. These are the repercussions.
1.) I'm stranded in the country.
2.) I have a big debt on the engine job that can only be paid off "with a job."
3.) Schools would use me as a substitute teacher, but I'm unable to get to area schools.
4.) No plumbing: I had to choose. No way to do laundry or bathe or get drinking water.
5.) No Christmas. I had to cancel a dinner invitation in Salina. My two sons in Wichita suffer from a disorder and don't have cars. They depend on me to bring their Christmas dinner and gifts.
6.) It's humiliating to write this and give it to the Marion County Record. I have pride and am self sufficient.
I have saved a historical landmark (the former county farm).
I need your help, good people of Marion County. I can't do it alone anymore.
I'm asking that the honest people of the area compel the mechanic (at Hillsboro) to return my money so another engine can be installed. Then I could be employed again.
