LETTERS: Food bank needs donations

To the Editor:

The Marion County Emergency Food Bank is asking for help as it faces continuing, perhaps increasing, needs. Established in 1985 by Marion Church Women United, its volunteers serve families in Marion County two mornings a week. These clients are sent by ministers and various agencies.

This past week there were nine families at the food bank. Their referral forms allowed them to have grocery store vouchers for $25 each. These vouchers are funded by county CROP walks.

The shelves of the food bank are nearly depleted. We need toilet paper, crackers, cake mixes, macaroni and cheese, soup, vegetables, tuna, fruit, anything most families use.

Funds are welcome to buy grocery items or to supply grocery vouchers.

The nine families served this past week were from Marion, Florence, Peabody, Hillsboro, and Ramona.

Grocery items may be taken to Erna Mae Yeagley at 1876 U.S.-56. Please call first, 620-382-2581. Checks may be sent to Janet Bryant, 524 W. Santa Fe, Marion.

Thanks for community support in the past and for support now.
