LETTERS: Hats off to independents

To The Editor

We thought Rowena Plett did an excellent story on Don Vinduska and Ed Vinduska and their difficult decision to remain independent farmers. Hats off to you guys! The easier and more common choice is to do the government's bidding and take the "hand-out" in badly needed funds. I'm proud to say that my husband, Gary Grentz, also is an independent farmer of Marion County. It has been our choice; less money, but independent!

The government becomes UNFAIR, however when all farmers are not treated the same when natural disasters hit, or government agencies require farmers to meet their requirements. It is at the farmer's own expense, if he is not in the government program. The independent farmers are paying taxes. They should be treated equally if the circumstance is outside their doing.

Don and Ed, good luck, ample moisture, and improved prices!
